Summary

Lincoln Electric is seeking a Control Systems Engineer for our Mentor, OH facility. The Control Systems Engineer is a key member of the Plant Engineering team, responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing support of control systems across the Consumable and Machine divisions at Cleveland Operations.

This role ensures the smooth operation of the manufacturing systems by managing the physical hardware, networks, and software that control critical machinery and processes. The Control Systems Engineer plays an integral role in maintaining high system availability, reliability, and performance, driving continuous improvement across operational functions.

What You Will Do:

-

Control Systems Design & Implementation:


  • Design, develop, and implement control systems, including hardware (PLC, HMI), software (automation platforms), networking infrastructure, and data acquisition systems.
  • Develop detailed design documentation, including system architecture, configuration, and functional specifications.
  • Apply industry best practices to design and implement effective, scalable, and secure control systems.


    Collaboration & Support:


  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams, including Plant Engineering, MES, IT, Maintenance, and Production, to deliver successful projects that involve control systems, PLCs, HMIs, and network integration.
  • Support production and facility projects by providing engineering expertise for control system solutions that drive efficiency, minimize downtime, and meet operational goals.



  • Collaborate with Operations teams to identify and address continuous improvement opportunities.


    Project Management & Estimation:


  • Estimate time, resources, and costs for new projects and initiatives, ensuring alignment with operational priorities and business objectives.
  • Review and evaluate capital equipment proposals and quotations to ensure equipment meets company standards for control systems and automation integration.


    Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution:


  • Provide hands-on support for troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, and network issues affecting control systems in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Work closely with Plant Engineering, Maintenance, and IT teams to ensure timely resolution of technical issues, minimizing production downtime.


    System Maintenance & Security:


  • Support and assist with network backup strategies and device patching processes to ensure system reliability and security.
  • Regularly review security vulnerabilities within control systems and work with relevant teams to address and remediate risks.


    Asset Management:


  • Assist in inventory management of control system assets, including software, servers, network devices, and workstations, ensuring accurate tracking and proper maintenance procedures.
  • Develop and apply standardized approaches to control system hardware and software configuration to ensure consistency and compliance across the organization.


    Data Collection & Distribution:


  • Compile and process data from connected devices, making it available to stakeholders across the organization for analysis, reporting, and decision-making.


    Leadership & Mentorship:


  • Lead project initiatives or key phases within larger projects, ensuring successful delivery within scope, time, and budget constraints.
  • Act as a technical resource and mentor to colleagues with less experience, sharing knowledge and fostering skill development.

    Required Education & Experience

    -


  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Level II Engineer: 3+ years of professional experience in control systems engineering, automation, or a related field.
  • Level III Engineer: 5+ years of professional experience in control systems engineering, automation, or a related field.
  • Proven experience with automation hardware and software platforms, including PLCs, HMIs, and industrial control systems.
  • Knowledge of control systems, networking protocols, and industrial communication standards: OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA)
  • Familiarity with database structures and query languages
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity fundamentals, with an interest in expanding expertise in industrial cybersecurity applications.
  • Ability to occasionally work off-shift hours and travel between facilities in Northeast Ohio (Euclid and Mentor) as required.
